High tea: Eteaket Edinburgh

Today's post is one for the tea lovers out there, or the high tea, afternoon tea lovers among us.
During a little meet up with a friend, we love to wine and dine and do loads of afternoon teas and things. So we decided we would try Eteaket's an Edinburgh based tea company, with an online store to buy different teas, vouchers and even a monthly tea club. 

But back to business here and a little review of this adorable little tea place, in the heart of Edinburgh, based in Fredrick Street, Erica the owner opened in 2008. She supports many different charity causes, including Aberlour Childrens trust, Education for children of Assam India, as well as many other local charities. 

Myself and my friend, Jade. Went in at around twenty past one on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy but not too busy, they couldn't squeeze us both in. We both chose to have the high tea, as we wanted to taste their food but weren't hungry enough for a full on afternoon tea. So in the high tea, you get half sandwich, scone (including, jam and clotted cream) and a mini patisserie cake and a pot of your own chosen tea. I went for the pesto chicken sandwich and white peony tea. Yes I went out of my comfort zone and went for a random tea, that I wasn't even sure if I would like it or not. But there is loads of teas to chose from.. Check the tea menu alone.

We got served our teas and got told to leave them infusing for 3 minutes and had a little egg timer to tell us when it would be infused enough. We got given super cute teacups and saucers for our tea. Then our high tea, was served on a cute little platter plate for one.
The tea its's self was enjoyable, fresh tasting and was refreshing on the palate. Sandwich was tasty, although the pesto was bright green, but yummy none the less. The scone was huge... But tasty. I got a citrus patisserie, which would have been nice if you liked citrus flavours. But it wasn't my favourite. For £8.95, which is amazing value especially in the Edinburgh area, as any sort of high tea, afternnoon tea, which is still only £15.95. Which is incredible for some locally sourced food and getting to chose your own tea. As in other places, you get the normal tea. I think getting to chose your own tea, makes the experience all that more enjoyable. 

So if you are a tea lover, high tea, cream tea, afternoon tea lover or just a lady who likes to lunch and find yourself in Edinburgh. I would definitely go and check out Eteaket. Or check out their online store and buy some of their amazing tea. I need to go back and try their chai latte or their tea based cocktails.. Yes you heard that right.

Starting to feel back in the swing of posts again, I have a list as long as my arm and after this weekend I should hopefully be fully organised again on being able to write and more efficiently. 

Now back to this post. Sunday 10th of January, I met up with family to enjoy a nice post festivities catch up. So my dear old Grandparents decided we would all try The Queens Arms on Frederick street Edinburgh. As we have heard wonderful things about their Sunday Lunches. Everyone I know loves a good classic Sunday lunch. It comes with being British. We arrived around 2pm and had a table booked for 2.15. But we had went for a booth, but we had ordered in advance the two of the Sunday roast dinner platters. Which I am glad we did, as I am a right sucker for roast dinners. The nice people at The Queens arms, had booked off a booth and a table for us so, we could chose where we thought would be best for our lunch. We ended up at the table, due to the size of the sharer platters. 
As you walk into the little pub, it is decorated in old school interior, little cute nick nacks everywhere and candles melted down liquor bottles. Bookshelves fill one wall, not sure if the books you could actually read. On a part of the ceiling there is dangling bottle, I don't know why but in my strange little head I loved the decor. We were told that there was no more sharer platters of roasts left, but we had already ordered ours, so the key here is if you fancy the roast dinner, book it before you aim to go.

After ordering, the service is very relaxed. We got our drinks and had to wait, a good 30-45 minutes on our roasts coming out. Which for me, I am normally starving before I even head to a restaurant. It could've been quicker. But when it came. I was not disappointed. On a platter for two people, there was a massive chunk of meat, cut up and served up medium well. There was also roast potatoes and massive crispy Yorkshire puddings, two for each person. There was also another plate with some veggies for us to share.. And gravy you can't forget about the gravy. 
I was shocked at how amazing it tasted, how beautiful it was presented to us. The meat was some steak I think or that is what it looked like. It tasted phenomenal. It really was amazing flavours and juicy. None of the dried up meat here. The yorkies, where crisp, massive and just brilliant. My two favourite parts of a roast, just everything was so tasty.

Then to top it all, we got some sharer puddings to have as well. We got a crumble of some sort, there was all sorts of fruits, from peach, apple, berries and raisins. There was also a thick wedge of dark chocolate torte, with a little old school milk bottle full of custard. It was all so delicious. We finished off with some coffee and shortbread. 

All in all I think the wait, was most definitely worth it. As the food was almost as good as homemade roasts and for a price of £29.50. Absolutely worth every penny and I can't wait until I go have another family roast dinner. After looking on the website, the pub its self has malt whiskies, cask ales and a lot more to offer than just a gastro pub meal. But it is for sure my new favourite place to eat when in town. The Phlegm Edinburgh's Rockabily Gods

Hey Guys and Dolls, 

Just a quick post on a band, I recently seen do a gig. 

The Phlegm, a Edinburgh based rockabily/psychobily band. I have had the pleasure of seeing these 3 laddies play around 8 times in the last 10 months. 
They are regulars at Henry's Cellar Bar in Edinburgh, they have done guest slots in supporting bands like jake and the jellyfish (also a band you guys need to check out) and another rockabily band called the Voodoo Kings.

They have been a band for many years and consist of Joe McGuigan (vocals/guitar), Grant McGuigan (bass/double bass/backing vocals) and Iain Robertson(drums).
During the set they played on the 29th January, they covered Gary Numan 'Cars' 

They also done original songs written by both Joe and Grant. This is a newly written song, by Grant McGuigan, Jet Board.

These young guys have done extremely well in the past 10 months that  I have been part of the crowd that they pull. I have went to the gigs with my girls and they have always had great things to say about the show afterwards. I love them as they are so unique in their style for such a young band. They have accomplished so much in such a short space of time and its great seeing them going from strength to strength. Their future is most definitely bright and I'm looking forward to seeing them grow more.
